Our Family Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. Gerald Xavier Getman Sr., 67, of Lyons, GA , who passed away at Veteran’s Hospital on Mar. 31, 2022. Gerald was born in Dublin, GA USA on Jul. 26, 1954 to Felton Aaron Getman (pre-deceased) and Uvalda Neckerson Getman (pre-deceased).

Mr. Getman was Career Military. He was a member and deacon at Lyons Freewill Holiness Church.

He was a U.S. Veteran, serving in the U. S. Coast Guard and attaining the rank of Captain in World War II. Military Honors include the Medal of Honor. He was a Prisoner of War (POW).

Gerald was a patriotic Republican until death. He loved his country and serving in the military, which he made into a wonderful career. He was a loving father and loved fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Helen Marburg Getman. He is survived by two children, a son, Gerald X. Getman, Jr. (Belinda) of Lyons, GA, and a daughter, Nancy Getman Banks (Dick) of North Augusta, SC. Five Grandchildren also survive.

Visitation will be held at Our Funeral Home Chapel on Apr. 02, 2022 beginning at 5:30 PM.

Services will be held at Veterans Cemetery, Glennville, GA (Graveside Only, with Full Military Honors) on Apr. 03, 2022 beginning at 11:00 AM with Rev. Brother Goodman officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Veterans’s Home, 232 Whip Way, Dublin, GA 39999.
